My ’96 and I

close enough

My ’96 and I

We’re doin’ OK,

In our outdated way.

Reliable, dependable,

Slow to start the day.

Both a bit loud,

But not too obnoxious.

Enjoy a good run,

But now we’re more cautious.

As we play old cassettes,

And eye other ‘vettes,

We’re doin’ OK,

In our outdated way.

Weapon of Mass Destruction!?

managementdocandpoet

Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has been charged with using a weapon of mass destruction.

I’m HIGHLY UNCOMFORTABLE with this. I’m NOT COMFORTABLE AT ALL with it, and here’s why:

The term “weapon of mass destruction” has typically been reserved for:
“Chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear weapons capable of a high order of destruction or causing mass casualties.”

This traditional definition of Weapons of Mass Destruction sets them apart from what is known as Conventional Weapons. “The terms conventional weapons generally refer to weapons that are in relatively wide use that are not weapons of mass destruction (e.g. nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons). Conventional weapons include small arms and light weapons, sea and land mines, as well as (non-nuclear) bombs, shells, rockets, missiles and cluster munitions.”

Many may remember George W.’s justification for invading Iraq was because of evidence that they had “Weapons of Mass Destruction.” (“Prior…

How much house can I afford to buy?

Can (Should) You Really Buy A House Up To 6 Times Your Annual Salary?

managementdocandpoet

The article at the link below from MSN.com suggests that one can comfortably buy a house priced up to 6 times their annual salary!

http://realestate.msn.com/what-you-must-earn-to-buy-a-home-in-25-cities-in-2013#10

Good luck using that ball-park figure! It perpetuates the current debt problem haunting today’s U.S. families.

Conventional wisdom for at least a generation (1964ish – 1994ish) was that a home should cost no more than 3 times one’s salary.

One might cite low interest rates as justification for the new 6X figure. But I know I’ve got all I can handle in a house valued at just 2.5 times my salary.

(A parenthetical side benefit to owning a smaller house is the time saved in vacuuming.)

A Proverbs 31 Woman: Who Can Find?

The LadyJournal paints the perfect picture of the truth found in Proverb 31. The entire Bible points to our need for Christ, and just like the Sermon on the Mount, the Proverb 31 pointedly reminds us that we can never – without Christ – be perfect, and with Him we are made perfect.

Samantha Cabrera

Just take the world aside. Sit down quietly. Look out your window or your view of anything else but your day-to-day activities. Bring your Bible, your hot tea and carry Proverbs 31 in your hand.

The more I read Proverbs 31, the more I feel a great hope, but also a great distress. I feel like this woman is standing on a boat somewhere in the vast sea, and no one can reach her.

Well, I’ve come to realize, this kind of woman never existed. She is more of a lovely personified character of nobility and wisdom found in Proverbs, even from the very beginning of this book chapter. After all, this epilogue is basically the icing on the cake for Proverbs.

Yet, when I come to the end and read things like many women do noble things, but you surpass them all…I almost feel cheated, and ask myself, can this…

I Became — The War Eagle

Falcon & Eagle make up my dreams.
Tell me, please, what all this means!

Falcon & Eagle make up my dreams,
Eagle & Falcon throughout the night.
Eagle won, so it seems,
Falcon, though, has taken flight.

Falcon puts up a mighty fight,
Falcon flies on warrior wings.
Eagle, though — it just seems right.
Tell me, please, what all this means!

Eagle’s speed & Eagle’s eyes,
Clutch their unsuspecting prey,
Catch me and Falcon by surprise.
But Falcon fights another day.

Now I dream I’m in the talon
(As Eagle gazes jealously)
Of the mighty warrior Falcon.
Both hunters fight zealously.

Falcon & Eagle make up my dreams.
Tell me, please, what all this means!
